The Battle…..for BLAKE!

With the NCAA just wrapping up, crowning new National Champs, The North Carolina Tarheels, the focus is now on the ’09 NBA Draft.  Tyler Hansbrough has been a model of consistency for the North Carolina Program, throughout his 4 years, and has racked up numerous awards.  However, the almost sure-to-be #1 pick this summer will be, Oklahoma’s Blake Griffin.  Griffin was an absolute MONSTER this season, and has declared for the NBA Draft, earlier Wednesday afternoon.  Griffin, who averaged 23pts & 14 reb., possesses an combination of strength, athleticism, and speed, that I haven’t seen in a power forward, since Charles Barkley’s tenure with the Sixers, early in his career.  Last season, Michael Beasley came into the league, with similar expectations, which he’s shown flashes of in his rookie season, but hasn’t been quite as consistent.  Bumps in the road are expected, as well as adjusting to the learning curve of the NBA, however with the Kings, Wizards, Clippers, Thunder, & Grizzlies, all in the Griffin sweepstakes, it will be interesting to see how he’ll fit with those teams.  Luckily Griffin can play 3 positions, both forward positions, as well as Center, at 6’10 250+, with excellent quickness.  His best suit out of the teams in contention would most likely be, The Grizzlies, as the other teams have solid, and fairly young players at the 4 position, respectively.  Others to watch for, although not all have declared : UNC’s Ty Lawson, Pitt’s Dajuan Blair, Louisville’s Terrance Williams, Memphis’ Tyreke Evans, & Syracuse’s Johnny Flynn.
